Pythagorean Theorem was thought out by a genius called Pythagorus.
Pythagorus was a famous mathematician who lived from 582 to 520 BC. He had many discoveries. Among them were the irrational number and the all-famous Pythagorean Theorem.
Pythagorean Theorem is a very, very useful knowledge as it is applied in many other maths topics like the trigonometry, and complex number.
Theorem : (for a 3 dimensional cube)
The length between diagonally opposite sides of a cube can be given by the formula
d^2 = h^2 + w^2 + l^2
where h is the height, w is the width and l is the length of the side of the cube.
Theorem : (for a right angle triangle)
The length of the slanting side of a right angle triangle can be given by the formula
r^2 = h^2 + w^2
where h is the height, and w is the width of the triangle.
This theorem has found its application in many areas of engineering, for example, civil engineering and optics engineering, where length or distance calculation has to be calculated.
Example:
Side A = 4 cm and Side B = 4 cm with Side A perpendicular to Side B. Calculate the length of the slanted side (hypothenus) C.
c^2 = A^2 + B^2 = 4^2 + 4^2 = 16 + 16 = 32 ==> c = Sqrt of 32 = 5.657 cm (answer)
Thanks to Pythagorus. We have more to learn, but for a good cause. Solving maths problem becomes easier with his amazing discovery of this wonderful theorem.
Without him, who knows, maybe the solution of the same maths problem may takes a few pages of computation!
